As part of an ongoing US$75 million global investment in R&D for this fiscal year ending on September 30, 2008, Microsoft has opened its first Windows Embedded regional development center in Asia. Named MESDC (Microsoft Embedded Systems Development Center), this new facility is located within the Microsoft ATC (Advanced Technology Center), part of the Microsoft CRD (China Research & Development Group) in Beijing, China.

The new Beijing facility is projected to support global product R&D and develop innovative features for Microsoft's Windows Embedded operating systems. Aside from this new regional center in Beijing, Microsoft launched on February 28 another such center in Aachen, Germany, according to a press release by Microsoft. Aside from these two centers, the company aims for more regional centers in other countries, including Denmark, France, Ireland, Serbia, the United Kingdom, and other countries across Europe.
